ECTARC The Basin Education and Care Service
ECTARC The Basin is a 40-place multipurpose service offering both preschool and long day care programs for children from 2 years to school age. The service offers a shady outdoor environment overlooking the street and is nestled between Sanctuary Point Public school and the Sanctuary Point Community Centre on Paradise Beach Road.
We promote and provide daily opportunities for children to learn through play, to explore, be creative, investigate, problem solve, practise skills and be challenged. We believe strongly in building genuine relationships with families as the most important step in teaching any child. We promote and respect all cultures and family groups. Located in Yuin nation, we have a strong Aboriginal culture focus.
Our indoor and outdoor environments promote opportunities to explore, be creative, investigate and be challenged. A relaxed atmosphere both indoor and outdoor allows children to feel safe, secure and valued. Our daily routine provides vast opportunities for indoor and outdoor play with three group times a day that cover literacy, maths, science, fine motor skills.
Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework and our educators use intentional teaching practices to guide children’s learning. Our educators actively engage in children’s play and use their knowledge of each child’s interests and passions to develop program which builds on each child’s potential and promotes a love of learning.
Using the Circle of Security approach, we have a strong focus on developing children’s confidence as well as their self-regulation skills which are vital for school and life success. We are also involved with Be You, which is a national initiative for educators, aimed at promoting and protecting positive mental health in children.
We have a strong connection with Sanctuary Point school. Our children participate in transition to school visits to give children an effective transition from early childhood education to school education and familiarise children with the classrooms and the school environment.
We are an Early Start Centre, linked with Wollongong University, who provide our educators with up to date professional development and the latest research regarding early childhood education.
