ECTARC Hospital Hill Education and Care Service
ECTARC Hospital Hill is 28 place occasional care service offering education and care to a diverse community in the Wollongong CBD. We are located within the medical precinct with both the Wollongong public and private hospitals nearby. The service can be accessed by car and is conveniently located close to the Wollongong train station and public bus route including the Gong Shuttle connecting us to the CBD and Wollongong University and TAFE.
At Hospital Hill we aim to create a sense of belonging which results in engaged, settled and involved children, families and educators. We believe that all children have the right to a welcoming, safe and educational environment that values their voice, plans for their interests and encourages exploration. We strive to build relationships and nurturing attachments in a safe and inclusive environment, which can be seen in our interactions and everyday practice. We value community involvement and encourage this by having a face and voice in the Community, and by inviting the community into the service.
Hospital Hill’s environment is welcoming, inclusive, diverse and made up of natural play spaces. We explore both indoors and out. We have a Veggie patch, worm farm, native bees, mud and sand pit, and open spaces for children. We encourage children and educators to be involved and explore, we can get wet, muddy and covered in paint, this is how we believe that children learn and develop. Indoors we have two playrooms, an early learning room (birth to 3 years) and a preschool room (3 – 5 years). We welcome children from birth to school age and are family grouped at times, which encourages siblings to be together and supports settling in. We are flexible in our routines and encourage families to spend time at the service with their children.
At Hospital Hill we believe that play is a healthy and essential part of early childhood and that families play a vital role in their child’s development. Children’s learning and development is supported through our observations, planning and programming and is guided by our listening to the voices of the children. Our everyday practice are based on current best practice and latest research and reflect the following: National Quality Framework, Early Years Learning Framework, Circle of Security, ECA Code of Ethics, The UN Convention on The Rights of the Child, Munch & Move, Paint the Town REaD, Be You, Sleep Smart, Sing and Grow. We keep a focus on sustainability throughout our planning cycle.
Our service is committed to ongoing self-assessment against the National Quality Standards to drive continuous improvement and improve the developmental and educational outcomes for young children. ECTARC Hospital Hill is awaiting Assessment and Rating against the National Quality Standards.
